A multi unit residential building in Tribeca required a covered walkway to comply with egress regulations. This offered an opportunity to provide additional exterior communal space. The new stair and pathway is articulated as a pergola element offering shade and framing a new open court area with sunken planting pits. Complete relocation of multiple existing air conditioning systems as well as significant structural work was required.
